Hats Off

Hello again. This is just a very quick post to let you see some of the little things I've been making. Of course making little things means that the big things take even longer to make. That's because I can only crochet or knit one thing at a time. Unfortunately!

This is a lap blanket that I knit while travelling as a passenger in the car. The strips are knit separately; 25 stitches and 300 rows of garter stitch. When all the strips were finished I crocheted them together and then crocheted a bit of a border round the outside.

I made another one the same except that it had an eighth stripe that was striped in the other direction with each of the seven colours. I didn't get a picture of it before I gave them both away. The two lap blankets went to keep residents of my local nursing home nice and warm. They were really pleased to receive them.

As a lot of you already know, Taci is planning to take hats to Brazil in July. So I thought I'd make some for her to take along.

Here they are. These are very small size.

These are probably big enough for a toddler. Very girly!

And these would suit a boy.

One of the girls in my crochet class also made some hats that I'll send along with mine.

I treated myself to some roses at the weekend. Aren't they lovely?

Thank you for your comments on the socks. Quite a few of you have put your name in one of the three hats to win a pair of socks. If you still haven't done so, then maybe you'd like to go back to my giveaway post and see what you think.

Bye for now. Next post will be to announce the socks winners.

  6. A post full of lovely things. What a wonderful idea donating those beautiful lap blankets to your local nursing home, I'm sure the residents will be thrilled, and very cosy. The hats are beautiful, and for such a worthy cause. Yellow roses are my favourites, I think it does us good to treat ourselves once in awhile, I'm sure they make you smile each time you catch sight of them.

Like making 7 scarfs . I love, love love the baby hats. How cute!!! And how nice of you to tell your friends a...that is so very generous of both of you. I will send you the address on an email my dear. I love your roses...yellow roses are my favorite also. They are gorgeous. Thank you so much again my dear friend.

  8. I wonder - would an octopus work on several projects at once? Or perhaps it's having just the one mind that is the real issue. Your hats are so pretty and cute - I'm sure the children would love them.

  17. A very pretty post Gillian and very generous of you to donate so many things to others in need.
I like the way your blankets are a combination of knitting and crochet - the perfect project to keep both knit and crochet skills active.
The little hats are cute but I like the simple purple beanie with the tassel and the pale blue one topped with the pom pom. The textured stripes come up well in the sky blue because it is a plain light colour and I have been trying to work out the stitches of those textured stripes. Thank you for some pretty pictures to brighten my day. xx

  19. I love the lap blankets, and how lovely that you've given them to the local nursing home, they will no doubt be very much appreciated. I like to knit in the car but it makes me feel a bit queasy so I don't do it often. It's a great way to make progress on things though isn't it. CJ xx

    1. It makes me feel queasy too which is why I have to knit or crochet something very simple that I don't need to look at much.
